ORGANIC ART vs GEOMETRIC ART

A jokester once said that the world is divided up into two groups---between those who divide people into two groups and those who don’t. Because really, everything can be divided into two groups—in fact, as a rule, things are defined by their opposite---Slow vs. Fast, Big vs. Little, Hot vs. Cold, Yin vs. Yang, etc.

And so, continuing in that tradition, I am going to divide Art into two groups: Geometric Art and Organic Art, the differences between which I shall explain shortly. Keep in mind however, that in reality, no artwork is entirely one thing or the other, just as nothing is either purely Hot or purely Cold, it’s only a matter of degree.

Anyway, the difference between Organic Art and Geometric Art can best be understood as the difference between the Organic Circle and the Geometric Square.

Whereas Geometric Art begins with a frame and converges in on a Focal Point:

Organic Art begins with a Nodal Point and radiates out:

Just like the difference between the Geometric Square and the Organic Circle.
